Rafting is getting more and more popular. The long tradition of rafting logs on the river Saale came to its final end in the 1940s because of more convenient and less expensive transport by train and on the road. Since 1995, rafting has become a special annual tourist attraction from April to October on the Saale between the villages Unterhasel and Uhlstädt. The river Saale has successively been converted into an attractive water way for canoeists since 2007. By special facilities and steps, you can carry your canoe, raft or boat around dams and barrages or go ashore to see interesting places and well-marked sights. When the water level is sufficient, you can paddle down the Saale water way from its storage-lake in Hohenwarte to its mouth in Barby.
