By the inauguration of the new hospital four and a half years after the architecture competition and only 26 months after the start of construction, there is a new neighbour in Rudolstadt’s town part Volkstedt. By its discrete and straight shapes and the bright façade, the building fits in an unobtrusive and hospitable way into the nice scenery of the Saale valley. Inside the building, the hospital wards are well and efficiently arranged. The second floor houses two wards for internal medicine with several specially equipped stroke-unit-rooms. In the first floor, there are three wards for geriatric medicine as well as the chief physician’s and management offices. All patients’ rooms provide a view of the neighbouring scenery. The ambulant, diagnostic and therapeutic facilities as well as the day hospital are located in the ground floor. Logistics, internal operations and technical management are situated in the basement.
